Happy February people!
Not sure about you guys but hasn’t January been Januarying? By that I mean it just seemed to go on and on and on. I feel like now peeps have been paid and it appears to be getting a smidge lighter in the mornings my mood has gone up. It’s a small win which I am fully going to embrace.
For those of you that have been stringent about setting New Year goals how is all that going for you? I read somewhere that only two weeks in January (around the 12th) is when people are most likely to throw in the towel on their resolutions - it even has a name ‘Quitters Friday’! Research also shows that by 1 February most talk around ‘smashing’ fitness and wellness New Year’s goals are well and truly kicked to the kerb and old familiar sedentary lifestyle habits are back in full force.
Listen I am not here to judge, I know all to well that, that shiz is not easy to maintain. However, as a midlife woman moving your body, eating well, getting a good night’s sleep (more of that later), maintaining and forming good connections and friendships are even more important for midlife women. Now is not the time to be taking our health and wellbeing for granted if anything, it’s the time to up the ante and keep going. Falling of the wagon is going to happen, the trick it to get back up on that bad boy and move forward.
I think that some of the reasons why midlife women give up on their wellness goals are because they are too unrealistic have high expectations and put unnecessary pressure on themselves. Let’s be frank, if you haven’t done any physical exercise since the eighties is it realistic to tell yourself that you are going start running 10 miles a day from January? Ok, slight exaggeration but you get my drift. You need to ease back into movement, health goals and maybe focus on consistency - little and often so you get those small wins in and then you can start challenging yourself once your confidence and fitness have improved.
Giving up too easy is another one, these days everyone wants instant gratification (I blame social media) and wants to take short cuts to achieve results. I put my hands up for this one, I am the most impatient person going, when I used to train for my bodybuilding competitions, I drove my coach (big up Clara) crazy with questions about why my body wasn’t changing. I soon learned that slow and steady wins the race which all goes back to the C word CONSISTENCY this is my mantra these days. I play the long game which I find yields the best sustainable results.
Accountability, having support and meeting like-minded diverse midlife women is one of the reasons why I created my new offering Midlife Baddie® which is midlife centred health and wellness workshops or healthstops as I like to call them. Firmly focussed on making wellbeing more diverse and accessible to women who want to invest in their wellness but do not have deep pockets to access information around being WELL in the forties and beyond. I have issues with good health and wellness only being limited to middle-class well-to-do women.
Which leads me nicely on to my Sleep School which is the first of a series of Midlife Baddies® Healthstops. Are you struggling to sleep? Do you wake up in the middle of the night? Are you a peri/menopausal woman suffering with insomnia? If yes, then you need to come along to our first Sleep School in partnership with Better You (award winning Magnesium sprays) and Made By Coopers a natural and vegan sleep and skincare brand.
It all takes place at the gorgeous, female-founded private members club, AllBright Mayfair in the heart of London on Wednesday 13 March 6.30 - 8.00pm And guess what my lovely subscribers, you are all invited.
